I've just recently installed ASE 11.9.2 on NT 4.0, and I'm experiencing a
problem where I cannot start the server using either Sybase Central or the
Control Panel services utility. In both cases, I immediately get a dialog
box with the message "The application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000022). Click on OK to terminate the application." Interestingly, if
I try to run the Server Config Utility to modify the configuration of my
local server, the server will start (if it wasn't already running), but
neither Sybase Central nor the Control Panel will show that it's running.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

Check the error log to see if anything was written to it. You may also want to check the
Event Viewer. If you find anything post it back here.

I found nothing in the error log. The event viewer shows 2 errors from the
Service Control Manager. First I get "Timeout (120000 milliseconds)
waiting for service to connect", then "The Sybase SQLServer _ TKANNENB
service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not
respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Not real
helpful, but that's all I can find.

Tim

Try starting it from the command line. That may produce a list of errors. Not sure
though. Contact Tech Support if you need to get the server running faster. I haven't
experienced this problem and without some clues it's hard to provide a solution.
