Dear sir or madam,

I met a problem in my customer's system . The log says the following.
The environment was ASE on HP-UX 11.

process pid == 2296, command RUN_H4000A does not have memory
locking privileges required for using
large text pages in this system version. Either correct
the privileges (see setprivgrp(1m)) or chatr the executable
text to a non +L option see chatr(1m)
process pid == 7813, command sh does not have memory
locking privileges required for using
large text pages in this system version. Either correct
the privileges (see setprivgrp(1m)) or chatr the executable
text to a non +L option see chatr(1m)

And the customer's system was down . Can you explain the reasons of the
problem and give me a solution?

Hope for your help.

Thanks a lot.

The more recent dataservers.. 11.5 and 11.9 have been marked as being
"large text page"
executables via the HP-UX chatr(1) command during the build process which
is why you are
now seeing these messages from dmesg.

To get rid of them do the following:

1.Use the following syntax to set the group permissions:

- must run as root

/etc/setprivgrp sybase RTPRIO MLOCK CHOWN

2.Add the following similar lines to the localrc part of /etc/rc or
whatever startup you use:

#BEGIN_SYBASE
#sa needs these privileges to run SQL Server
/etc/setprivgrp user_id RTPRIO MLOCK CHOWN
#END_SYBASE

3.Lock shared memory using the following syntax:

sp_configure "lock shared memory", 1

Then from the Unix prompt:

chatr +pi L dataserver
