When I try to start the dbeng8 command in a batch file the command prompt
is not available until the database engine is shutdown. The following is
the contents of the batch file:

cd \Program Files\Sybase\SQL Anywhere 8

dbeng8
D:\Sargent\Jobs\Dominion\Production_databases\dbdom007\meteroneany.db

dbisql -c "uid=dba;pwd=sql"
d:\sargent\jobs\dominion\production_databases\subscribe.sql

dbstop

Anything following the dbeng8 command will not process until the database
engine is shutdown which causes problems. Any thoughts?

Thank you

Look up the following topic in the online help. Essentially dbspawn
is meant to do exactly this.

Adaptive Server Anywhere Database Administration Guide
15. Database Administration Utilities
The Spawn utility

As Chris suggests, starting the database as part of the call to
dbisql might be easier.

Since all you do is start and stop the db with the first and last line, have
you considered starting the database as part of the isql command line?

dbisql -c
"uid=dba;pwd=sql;dbf=D:\Sargent\Jobs\Dominion\Production_databases\dbdom007\
meteroneany.db" {your sql file}

/ck
