Hello,

I have a c/s app developed in Powerbuilder 7 running with ASA 7.03 in
a distributed db setup over a network. I have 3 users that are accessing
the db from one location
and one accessing the db from another location.

I have become aware of an occasional communication error that occurs while
the users
are running the application. Users can login and launch the app no problem.
However as they are
working, when they reach for some functionality that does a database
retrieve, they will receive this error:

SQLSTATE=08S01

Sybase ODBC Driver Adaptive Server Anywhere Communication Link Failure:
Communication Error

SQLCODE -1
SQLDBCODE -85
SQLNROWS 0
DBMS odbc

After another message:

SQLSTATE=S1000

Sybase ODBC Driver Adaptive Server Anywhere General Error: Connection was
terminated
SQLCODE -1
SQLDBCODE -308
SQLNROWS 0
DBMS odbc

The application just sits there with a big white area where the datawindow
result set should be.

This doesn't happen all the time but enough to make the app a pain to work
with.

I noticed it happens more frequently on some machines than others.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Josh

about Communciation Failure,

The app doesn't crash, just sits there with an empty

At this point, users will have

It doesn't happen all the time, just enough to make it a pain to use the

Run a Debug on the client (configured on the Advanced Tab of the ODBC DSN).
You will likely find PrefetchBuffer warnings. If you do, try increasing your
PrefetchBuffer size.

Hi,
I am having a c/s application (PB 7.0/ASA 7)

After installing SQL Anywhere ASA 7.0.4 patch, couple of machines
cannot execute the application. Whenever the users try to access one
particular tree view, the application crashes with the following error.
User Name - ABC UIxxxx Error Type: Database Error
Error Message: -85 Select error:SQLSTATE= 08S01
[Sybase] [ODBC Driver] [Adaptive Server Anywhere] Communication Link
Failure: Communication error

[Initially before applying the patch, the tree view when clicked would not
display anything.]

Increasing the prefetchrows and prefetch buffer parameters did not help.
The problem still persists.
Can anybody please suggest something?
Thanks
Vijay
