Help! Can somebody tell me how to dump a database to a file (regular file
system file) on Solaris 2.6? I don't have a tape drive but need to create
backups.

It is just the same as dumping to a tape device, except you specify the full
path filename
to where you want to dump it. In general, if the db is over 2GB in size, use
"stripe on" clauses
so that each stripe will be less than 2GB.

dump database mydatabase to "/some/where/on/the/filesystem"
[stripe on "<fullpathfilename>"...]

Is the 2GB file size significant?

Older versions of the backupserver could only write files up to 2GB. My
understanding is
that the 12.0 backupserver can write files up to 32gb. But I would be sure to test
it on
my own system before trusting it.
