I Exported the Registry and copied the values;
this works in VB

ConnString = "Provider=ASAProv.70;" & _
"UID=dba;" & _
"PWD=sql;" & _
"DatabaseName=archtrack;" & _
"EngineName=archServ;" & _
"AutoStop=Yes;" & _
"Integrated=No; " & _
"Debug=No;" & _
"DisableMultiRowFetch=No;" & _
"CommLinks=TCPIP{host=192.168.200.5:14305}"

For Some reason all the Abreviations seem to cause problems

It has nothing to do with short versus long....

You used "IP=192.168.200.5:14305" in your connnection string that failed. IP
is not a communications parameter. The connection string that you copied
from the registry uses "CommLinks=TCPIP{host=192.168.200.5:14305)" which is
*more* correct. The preferred line is :

CommLinks=TCPIP{host=192.168.200.5;Port=14305)

Ok I have read the online help to the point I could probably recite it in a
play.

Startup string=
dbsrv7 -x tcpip(serverport=14305) -n archServ path\file.db

Starts Fine

I can Connect to this with no problem using a DSN
I need to do it without a DSN from vb
MyString:
ConnString = "Provider=ASAProv.70;" & _
"dbn=archtrack;" & _
"ENG=archServ;" & _
"User ID=dba" & _
"; Password=sql;" & _
"IP=192.168.200.5:14305"
Set Conn = New ADODB.Connection
Conn.Open ConnString

Doesn't Connect
I have tried using default ports etc.
Thanks
