Greetings!
Does anybody knows what happens when we stop the NT ASE Service? is it
equivalent to a 'kill dataserver' a 'shutdown with no_wait' or a clean
'shutdown'?
I'm analising the errorlog and it seems to be equivalent to a kill. In
case this is true, is there any way to change that behaviour?

thanks,
Hugo Alhandra

Hugo,

It performs the same function as issuing a standard 'shutdown' command from
ISQL. If it did a shutdown with nowait, you would be seeing "Shutdown with
nowait detected" in the errorlog. I have never had an issue with stopping
and starting Sybase ASE as a service.

Andy

We attempt to perform a standard shutdown. We have to continually report back
to the NT service manager on our progress, so that it knows we are still
closing down and not hung or anything.

However if the service is being stopped as part of an NT system shutdown, then
the NT service manager gives us limited time in which to stop and may kill us
before we finished.

cheers,
tonyi
