We are using ASE 11.5, I wants to know if there is a way to write a text
file by SP, instead of sending back the resultset to client side and
writing the text file at front-end. Please advice...

Thanks, Nimesh

Well, not as such in ASE 11.5. But in 12.5, you could use the optional
XFS (extended file system) feature to create a proxy table that mapps to
a file out in the OS, then insert the data into the proxy table, which
writes it out to the file.

However, you might want to think about just where you want the output
file,
on the Server's host machine, or one the machine the client is running
on...

thanks for your help, Bret.
I am willing to write the text file on the server itself. Not on the client
side. That's the basic reason that I wants it done by SP instead of writing
code at client side.

Girish,
Thanks for your reply.

>>Have you looked into extended stored procedures.

Yes, I tried to go for ESP. But the problem is that we are not running XP
Server on the server. And the ESP to be executed it requires XP Server
running.
