I'v read several posts about putting the long-text in its own nested
report. I admit to being a report-newbie. How to properly set this
up?

The current datawindow/report has a header and displays 2 objects.
Text description on left and the long text on the right. In my
example, there are two rows, and for row=2 the long text goes on for
3-4 pages.

I copied the DW, rep to rep_note. In rep_note removed everything but
the long-text column.
in rep, replaced long text with nested report; rep_note.

My 20 page report is now 44 pages with rep note repeating several
times.

I assume the repeat is for EACH description, and a few extra just for
good measure. :-)

Am I correct that i must change the SQL (stored proc) behind rep_note
to only return the text corresponding to the current description
element?

Since rep_note may span several pages, how do I get the 'common'
footer back in?

That's a start - thanks!

Steve

Follow on:

Created nested report to handle large text.
Should be getting out put like:
D T
D T
T
T
D T
...
Where D is the description text and T is the long text that spans
pages.

But getting:
D T
D
T
T
<blank>
D T

Thanks!

Steve

That sounds very familiar: if the content of one (large) column doesn't
fit onto the current page, PB will try to put the contents onto a new
page. If it won't fit there anyway (being longer than 1 page) the
content is output to more than one page. Worst case: an empty page
except header/footer.

This behavior is older then the current century (I remember it from
6.5), but still annoying.

PB version 9.0.2 build 7661 (I think we're going to 11.5 sometime in
the next quarter, but in the meantime...) :-)

Both tabular and grid forms seem to have a cumulative problem where
the start of the next page after a long text moves farther down the
physical page.

Also, in Preview, I see the problem where the lines at the end of the
text are disappearing. If I print to PDF, all the lines appear, but
the splitting problem returns.

Thanks!

Steve
