Hi:

Today we bought an sql anywhere 8 with 5 license and installed the server
on an Windows 2000 machine, but the database file is placed on the network
shared drive, the problem is that we can connect to the Database from the
server machine, but couldn't connect from other client machine which
installed the Sql anywhere license. Specified the user name and passwork and
database file from the client machine, try to connect, get an error message:
"Can't start the database server", anybody konw what's the problem? By the
way, the network is Novell.

Thanks for all you help!

Mike

Two problems here.

Running the server on one machine and having the database on another machine
is UNSUPPORTED.
It sounds like you also started dbeng8 instead of dbsrv8. dbeng8 is a
single user database engine.

Hi Rick:

I totally agree with you on the second one cause really I should use
dbsrv8. But I disagree with you about the first one, I do successfully
installed the database on another machine other than the server machine and
get it working properly.

Please refer to the document "Accessing Database Files via a Network
Share" at http://my.sybase.com/detail?id=47922 for a complete
explaination of why this is not a good idea.
