We came up with a tool using GhostView to convert PS or PDF to a
bitmap. The using Image Magik to compare images from the same report
generated by each version.

So far, we see a linear difference as one moves down the page. Render
objects get farther and farther out of sync. OTOH, Footers line up
100%. :-) There's a pixel off near the top and about 10 by the
bottom.
oddly, the PB10 report is the one more squished, IOW, PB10 lines are
above PB5 lines.

Export and compare the two DW objects and no differences in object
locations (PBUnits).

Any ideas? It seems the internal calculation of PBunit might be off?
even though both builds and report generation are on the same box with
same system font setting and same target printer, etc...

Thanks!

Steve

In PB5, the default hight of the header, Summary, Footer, and even
detail is 1.

If I View Source in PB10, the object says "release 5;" and everything
is the SAME. However, if I touch the object and save it, it's now
"Release 10" and the default height for each section is 0. (or height
- 1, (see below))

Could I be seeing the difference that PB5 is rendering those extra
units and PB10 is NOT? Also, even though the object is release-5, it
changes those defaults to 0 when it prints? and that's why the PB10
image is shorter as we get to the bottom of the page?

Example, the 1st page of the document is made up of at least 8 nested
report objects. That means I should be seeing 24 or more units of
difference by the bottom. makes more sense if it is JUST the DETAIL
section, as I see PB10 subtracting 1 unit when it saved as
release-10. (477 -> 476).

Thanks!

Steve

Hi Steve;

Yes, I think that this is a "migration" flaw in PB. The DWO's source always
reflects the old PB release. What I always do now is when the migration step
is completed, I edit the "source" of the DWO's and change the "Release"
parameter to 10, 10.5 or 11, etc then save the DWO. This makes sure that the
DW compiler re-assess everything relative to its newest feature set.

Just changing release to 10 didn't seem to make any difference. I
played with using an external tool, or just touching the objects via
View Source AND opening the object and saving.

The latter SHOWS that header, footer, etc now have height=0, the other
methods leave the old value but it still prints as if height=0.

So I now have R10 objects and I SET those heights to 1 or add 1 to the
detail, but save and re-open, and they are all back to 0 or for
detail, H-1.

One could argue that PB10 is actually printing the objects correctly,
that PB5 was always doing it wrong. LOL! (Non-solid lines for
example are printing correctly)

The problem here is the spacing between DWobjects on the page, not the
layout of the DW objects themselves.

release 10;
datawindow(units=0 timer_interval=0 color=16777215 processing=0
HTMLDW=no print.printername="" print.documentname="" print.orientation
= 0 print.margin.left = 110 print.margin.right = 110 print.margin.top

summary(height=0 color="536870912" )
footer(height=0 color="536870912" )
detail(height=476 color="536870912" )

vs.

release 10;
datawindow(units=0 timer_interval=0 color=16777215 processing=0
HTMLDW=no print.printername="" print.documentname="" print.orientation
= 0 print.margin.left = 110 print.margin.right = 110 print.margin.top

Great .. just wanted to make sure you were on a recent version.

Can you post a screen image of the PB 5.x vs PB 10.x with their PDF reports
so that we can see?
