When using a simple query (i.e. SELECT * FROM table) in WISQL32, I get the
following error:

"Open Client Error: ct_cmd_drop(); user api ;layer; external error: This
routine can be called only if the command structure is idle."

A few rows are displayed in the results pane followed by a message "***
query aborted ***".

Can anyone explain what's going on?

Thanks in advance,

That's generally what happens when a query times out. Try setting your
options to a higher time-out value. Wisql and Wisql32 in our experience
aren't very robust for major queries. I went to Emeryville last week for
Sybase training, and they are now using SQL Advantage on Windows NT boxes
(Pentium Pros) for doing SQL.
