I hope someone can help me with what may be a basic question.
I have been running into problems on database dumps lately in version
11.02.1 of SQL Server. I keep getting the message "Volume to be overwritten
on xxxxx has unrecognized label data". I am dumping to a file on a
hard-drive (xxxxxx). When I check the manuals, I keep seeing information
about using "init" option, etc, but it really seems like they're talking
about tapes instead of files on a hard drive. It implies that the Backup
Server has requested a volume change but I'm not using tapes. Anybody have
any ideas why I am getting this?? Thanks.

Could you provide your complete dump command as well as the complete
error(s).

If you're dumping to disk you do not need the 'init' option ... you are
correct, this is used at times when dumping to tape.

--------------

Have these dump commands worked in the past? If so, have you changed
anything about the actual command lately ... which could coorespond with
the time at which your problems started appearing?

Are you having this problem with *all* dumps ... by *all* I mean
development, test, production systems ... all database dumps ... all
transaction log dumps? Or are your problems related to a specific
subset of your environment?
