Hi,

Is it possible to extract the CAB files for the Manage Anywhere Client
install? I would like to put the CAB file on a storage card and use it to
install on many PDA's. I have done this with the iAnywhere client without
any problems. I cannot find a location for any CAB files, only the PKG
files.

Can you help?

Regards

Hi Graham,

What version of Manage Anywhere Studio (MAS) are you using? What type of
device are you attempt to deploy the Micro Agent to?

Eric,

I am using MAS v4.5 that is on the evaluation CD disk set. This is running
on an NT4 SP6a server with IIS 4.0.

I am using 2 devices:

1) Casio Cassiopeia EG800 - Pocket PC
2) Compaq iPAQ 3970 - Pocket PC 2002

I have tried a couple of methods of connection:

1) Direct to the network via a Socket Ethernet card. Then I browse to the
\\<servername>\MA2000 and get a page on the PDA. However, clicking on the
SETUP.EXE produces the message (after downloading the file) 'not a valid
Pocket PC application'. This appears to be a PC file as from the same page
browsed to via the PC, works fine and installs the client on the PC.

2) Connecting to PC via ActiveSync (IrDA). I was under the impression that
this should show up as a 'docked' device. However, it doesn't and again
browsing to the page produces the same problem as above.

Ideally, I would like the native CAB files that I can put on a storage card
then deploy to any device I like.

Hope you can help.

Graham,

In MAS 4.5 the Agent is not installed using a CAB file or the setup.exe.
The setup.exe is
used strictly for PC Agent installations which is why you get the message
that it is not a
valid Windows CE application. Typically, to install a Micro Agent on a CE
device the device
must first be recognized as a Docked Device in the console. Then once this
recognition has
taken place, with the device in it's cradle, you can send the appropriate
Windows CE Micro
Agent installation package. These installation packages are based on the
processor of the
device so for the Casio device you would use the MIPS package and for the
iPAQ you would use
the ARM package. An alternate method of deploying the Micro Agent is by
deploying the
actual Micro Agent files to the device manually or by building a CAB file to
install these
files.

Since you mention that the device is not recognized as a Docked Device we
need to fix this.

1) Make sure you can ActiveSync files to the device.
2) Reboot the PC that the device is cradled on.
3) From the Console send the Get System Inventory.pkg to the PC that has
the device
connected (cradled).
4) Once the Get System Inventory.pkg has finished executed the device
should now show up in
the "All Docked CEs" group.
5) Right click on the device and choose to install the appropriate Micro
Agent installation
package.

Alternate option:

1) Manually deploy the Micro Agent files to the device.
2) On the PC that you have installed the Micro Agent on browse the
following directory:

C:\Program Files\Sybase\Manage Anywhere\MicroAgents\mawce

Under the above directory you will find sub-directories for the Micro Agent
(based on
processor).

3) Choose the directory of the processor that matches your device. Take
these files and
place them on the Ce device in the directory (cepkgproc.exe, maamgr.exe,
macesetting.exe, mawce.exe):

\Program Files\Sybase\Manage Anywhere

4) From the directory C:\Program Files\Sybase\Manage Anywhere\MicroAgents\m
awce copy the
file named mawce.cfg into \Program Files\Sybase\Manage Anywhere

5) The actual Micro Agent executable is maamgr.exe. I would create a
shortcut to this file
in \Windows\Startup

This shortcut will cause the Micro Agent to start when the device is reset.
Otherwise, you
will have to execute maamgr.exe directly to start the Agent.
