Hi

i'm taking a backup of my DB through Sybase Central. i'm using Sybase
Adapter Server Anywhere 8.0.2. Actually after i take a backup and tried to
restore from the same backup to the original database, i'm not able to over
write the existing database from the restore option. it gives transaction
not found error.
Actually while taking the backup transaction log is there, during restore
operation it was available.
It simply gives "transaction not found error" and terminates the restore
operation.
After this error, when i try to start the database next time, it says
database corrupted, cannot start the server.

please guide in this issue, or give some the steps to perform backup &
restore operation. please provide me some good article on backup & restore
operation if available.

Thanks in advance
Shankar

So what exactly did you do?
What are the file names?
What options did you choose in the Backup Database wizard?
Where did you put the backup files?
How did you attempt the restore?

Are you currently using a log file for the database TestDB.db?
- If you aren't sure then dbinfo will show you

At this point it sounds like you can reproduce the issue so you will
probably be best off opening a case with Tech Support to work through the
problem. Even if you aren't using a log file, I don't see any reason why the
archive backup shouldn't be able to handle the situation. If you are using a
log file, then the fact that the restore process can't find the log file in
the archive would be a problem that we need to investigate.

Robert

Yeah, i'm using the log file for the TestDB. Storing the transaction logs
in a seperate file.

Is this problem with the Sybase tool itself?
please let me know the solution when you find it

Thanks in advance
Shankar

We'll need a reproducible case first. We have not seen this issue in our
tests.
