Can I use the SQL Anywhere v5.5 stand alone engine (dbeng50) freely? I have
a single aplication, that requires one single conection, on a SQL Anywhere
v5.5 database on the same machine, using the engine (dbeng50.exe and no
more then 4 others DLLs). Do I have to buy the licence for this single
conection for a software that is no longer in production ?

DBENG50 is not freely deployable. You have to license for each dbeng50 that
you deploy.

Even if I have the Licensed version of PowerBuilder 6.5, that brings a SQL
Anywhere 5.5 copy ? Ok. So I have to register the SQL Anywher 5.5. HOW ? ?
? This is a out-of-production version with limited SYBASE suport (Document
1013108 - "End Of Life Notification for SQL Anywhere 5.x and 6.x"). SYBASE
will FORCE me to buy and use the last version of the software ? ? ? I talk
with SYBASE salers of my country (Brazil) and event them have many doubts
about these questions...

Thank you for your help.

When you buy PB 6.x, you get a license for the RUNTIME edition
(rtdsk50.exe). That version is freely deployable but it has a number of
limitations i.e., no stored procedures, triggers, cannot be used in
replication, no transaction log file(s)

I think the RTSDK50.EXE is enought for me. I need mostly retrieves and some
inserts and updates. I don´t need nothing more complex like
StoreProcedures, Triggers or access controls. So I will test the
RTSDK50.EXE... Thank you very much for this information!

I would suggest directing your Sales Rep towards the iAnywhere Product
Management team for clarification.

One point that must be kept clear is that the Standalone Engine
(dbeng50) from SQL Anywhere 5.x is a licensed product and requires proper
licensing to be deployed. An EOL notification does not change the license
agreement or license requirements for the product.
