I am using Sybase 11.5.1.
I am getting a message stating :
"Can't allocate space for object 'syslogs' in database 'primo_test' because
the 'logsegment' segment is full. If you ran out of space in syslogs, dump
the transaction log. Otherwise, use ALTER DATABASE or sp_extendsegment to
increase the size of the segment."

My master.dat is already full. How do I extend the size of logsegment?

Is there any who can help me
Thanks
Shakeel

Well, you should not be using the master device for your user databases, put
them somewhere else. Create a new device and extend your log onto it, or if
you have space in other log devices (and judging from the fact a database
has been created on the master device, I would think you don't) extend it on
to that.

My advice would be to dump your database, extract the DDL to recreate it on
NEW data and log devices, drop the database, create new data and log
devices, recreate your database on those devices and not master, then reload
your database. If you have mixed data and log, then you can either just do
what I said in the previous sentence and use one device for mixed data and
log, or bcp out your data and create a new empty database with data and log
segments, then recreate your tables and bcp the data back in.

Basically, never use the master device for anything other than the master
database. And you should always leave yourself free space on the master
device in case you need to extend master. Master cannot be extended on to
any other device, it has to use the master device. So, if you fill the
master database (you should always capacity plan so this doesn't happen) and
you have no space on the master device, mainly because you've used it for
user database, it is game over and then you look at how to use Buildmaster
and rtfm.

Anyway, tidy up your databases and put them on a device other than master
before doing anything else.

Andy
