I want to know, if it is still possible to distribute a powerbuilder
application with ASA 8.0 standalone version, or if the standalone version
is still supported in ASA 8.0 as it was in ASA 6.0, or what was the last
version of ASA wich supported StandAlone. i need to have an answer ASAP.
thanks !!!!!!

The standalone version of the ASA Engine is fully supported in all currently
released versions of ASA. I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be
included in all future releases as well. Distributing the standalone
version (also referred to as the "Personal Server") has ALWAYS involved
paying a licensing fee to Sybase/iAnywhere Solutions.

But what happened with the rteng6.exe, wich was a standalone version that
didn't need a license to use it with applications?, i refered this
information here

http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1011232

and part of this paper say

"If your application uses a standalone database, you can deploy the
Adaptive Server Anywhere Desktop Runtime System to users' computers without
incurring additional license fees. "

i'll wait for your response

thanks !!!!

PB includes the runtime edition. The install is found on the PB CD under the
subdirectory SUPPORT. For PB 6, the runtime edition was SQL Anywhere 5. For
PB 7 and PB8, the runtime was Adaptive Server Anywhere 6. For PB9, the
runtime version was ASA8.

If you do not have PB9, you must purchase license for ASA8 Runtime Edition
for deployment.

And BTW rteng6 is not the standalone engine. The rtengX is the runtime
engine. The standalone engine, or personal server, is dbengX and it not
freely distributable.

thanks for your response, but i have one more question, i'm going to
explain you what I need to do. I have PB8 and SQLAnywhere 8, and i
developed an application using PB, and i use as a repository of information
ASA8, i'm not using store procedures, triggers, java embedded, i use only
tables. Therefore, now i want to install the program to my clients, but i
want to know if i may use the runtime editon of ASA without purchasing a
license for each client, since i'm not using all the benefits of the DBMS,
i read that it's posible to distribute applications with the runtime
edition, but i want to be sure of that, because i don't want to have
problems dealing with licensing. i'll wait for some answers, Regards !!!!

This is not a forum for official sales (or support) information. I
suggest you contact a sales representative to find out what options are
available to you. As you mentioned, you certainly want to ensure that
you have the correct information and licensing.

Contact information is available on the iAnywhere Solutions website:
http://www.ianywhere.com/company/contact.html

Hope this helps,
greg.fenton
