Hello,

I would like ASE to add at the table level a new settable option via the
SET builtin. This settable option would allow for data to be replaced that
has a unique or primary key constraint on a set columns of the table. I
would also like this to be set permanently for a table via the
sp_chgattribute procedure.

SET DATA REPLACE TABLE_A ON
go

There are many useful features of this. Including, reducing replication
server overhead for autocorrection. Essentially the ASE server can perform
the autocorrection. That is, repserver would run SET DATA REPLACE TABLE_A
ON/OFF when establishing a connection or when autocorrection is modified.

Thanks,

Hi Ryan,

Forgive me for being a little dense... I'm not sure of the benefit of
this would be to just using an update and disabling the repagent for
this time period. I'm probably misunderstanding your request here.

Hello,

I would be looking for an automatic or system generated behind the scenes
DELETE statement for every record that would be inserted into a table that
could violate a unique index or primary key constraint. In addition, there
would not be any errors generated with this option on if a duplicate insert
would have been tried with this option off.

Also, this feature should use deferred constraint checking. So, this would
be an easy way to modify a parent record using an insert.

Replication should also tie into this and that when autocorrection is
turned on inserts only send inserts and updates only send inserts. Instead
of the today, inserts send deletes then inserts, and updates send deletes
then inserts. This should greatly enhance the speed of replication server
with autocorrection turned on. Also, deferred checking makes this awesome
for replication server. That is, autocorrection today can be pain if you
turn it on for parent tables.

Thanks,
Ryan Putnam
