I would like to be able to choose the 'point in time' that a database dump
reflects to be at the beginning of a database dump (ie. at a time that I
control).

Currently my batch processing has to sit around and wait while the database
dump completes. If the point in time was at the beginning of the dump I
could start the dump and start the batch processing (very shortly after) in
parallel with it.

As a workaround, can you start the dump early, then dump tran just before
the batch processing? This should result in a smaller wait interval.
