Hi,

I am trying to set-up a remote connection to the MA server so I can run the
console from my own machine. I have gone through the install process and
chosen the necessary components to achieve this.

I can start the Package Editor on my machine and connect to the server
fine. Also, the 'test connection' works fine to, so my machine can see the
server.

However, when I start MA Studio Console and choose the server to connect
to, I get the following error messages:

Verifying Database Schema version...
Unable to find appropriate database layout
Unable to open remote site server database

It can see the server and accepts the username/password information I
enter.

Can you offer any advice?

Thanks

Graham,

What database are you using for MAS? If the database is ASA, have you
created a System ASA ODBC data source to connect to the database from the
remote machine? In addition, this DSN must be named the same as the DSN
that you have configured for connectivity on the actual Primary Command
Server machine.

Eric,

Since posting the original message, I then found this in the PDF manual:

"Note: If you are installing the secondary command server and/or the remote
admin console, you need an ASA client installed as well. You also need to
create a DSN with the same name as the one used in the Primary Command
Server to access the ASA datastore. Otherwise, you see a message Unable to
find Database layout. and the installation fails. For more information
about ASA databases, refer to the Oracle documentation."

I now have to download ASA and install this. Do you have the direct link
where I can download it?

Thanks

Graham

Graham,

Does this mean that you are using an Access database at this time? One
thing to note is that you will be unable to use the Remote Console when
using an Access database - it is not supported. I assume since you are
asking where to get ASA you are not using ASA as the MAS database
repository. If you are using ASA, the client installation is selectable
from the installation CD. Otherwise, you would want to apply this same
configuration principle by creating a DSN using the ODBC driver of your
database vendor. In order to use ASA you can download a fully functional
trial version at the following URL:

Eric,

I now have ASA 8.0 installed from our CD's. We are using ASA 8.0 on the
server.

I'm not sure of the settings required in the System DSN entry that I need
to set-up on my PC? Do I have to make the MAStudio.db available to the
network from the MA server? Do I simply copy the entry information off the
MA server?

If you have any documentation that details how to get this setup it would
be appreciated -- the PDF manual does not supply much.

Thanks

Graham

Hello Graham,

Instructions on how to create the database and configure the ODBC DSN are available in the file setup.htm.  This file is located in the root of the evaluation software.  The instructions also include screenshots to help you setting up the database.

We also have a whitepaper describing how to configure other RDBMs (Microsoft and Oracle).  The URL is http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1022788.

I hope this helps!
