AAAAAaaaaauauuuugggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is killing me! We have several machines connected to our Sybase
11.0.2
server running ipx/spx:

I have tried both the straight sql.ini configuration and dsedit.

The SQL.INI file looks like this:

[SATURN]
master=SPX,00000000,00A247C25F9,83bd
query=SPX,00000000,00A247C25F9,83bd

I can connect to other servers using TCP, but not on either of my WIN98
machines.

When I try to connect to my Saturn server, I get the message:
THE LOCAL MACHINE HAS NOT SET UP A DRIVER FOR THE PROTOCOL SPX
When I try it from another machine, I get a similar message with error 157.

I verified that the IPX/SPX protocol has been loaded.

I am sure that it is something simple as we have someone done this before
on
other machines, but I can't figure it out!

Please help!

Thanks!

Paul Murray

I am guessing that this is a path problem. I copied over the autoexec.bat
from another machine that at least can connect to my 12.0 server, but not
the 11.0.2 machine via SPX.

This was no help at all. Is this a Powerbuilder problem or a DSEDIT
problem?

I have wasted an inordinate amount of time on something that should install
properly all by itself.

At one point, I was able to PING the 11.0.2 machine, but couldn't use the
profile I set up in DSEDIT from either Powerbuilder 6.0 or 7.0.2.

Then I copied over the autoexec.bat (WIN98) and then I couldn't connect to
anything.

I still get the error message in Powerbuilder that it cannot load the
driver or the interface.

Everything is a vanilla install regarding the installation directories and
the EA Suite.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Paul Murray

I don't think I have ever connected to an ASE server using anything except TCP/IP. I can't
help you at all with IPX/SPX and I don't think it is even a supported protocol. I remember
back in 1990 complaining that we had to load the IP software on Win 3.1 to talk to the
database server. The only protocol we had at the time was the Netware IPX protocol to
connect to the file servers.
