I've installed MAS in a Windows 2000 Advanced Server machine and also a
Agent on a client machine (Windows 2000 Professional) under a LAN
connection, but doesn't appear into the console of primary command server my
primary server on "Architecture->Command Servers View" either the client
machine into "PCs->All Systems View". What's the problem?. In addition, the
connection between agent of client machine and primary command server its
ok!!

Thanks.

When you installed the product did you use a System or User dsn to connect
to the database? You must use a System dsn for proper operation of the
product.

In addition to what Eric said, the most obvious problem is: is the database
used for the Manage Anywhere data repository running at all?

Since you mentioned that you don't even see anything in the Command Server
list, that tells me that the console's DSN cannot connect to the database.
Either you've made changes to the Manage Anywhere DSN after you installed
the product (which made the DSN unable to connect to the database), the
database server is not started.

Eric Bencina had the reason, because i installed MAS using a User dsn and
not a System dsn. However, i correct it and now there is a new problem!!,
now when i test the connection between agents and primary server command, or
when i attempt to deploy the agents, i can't do it because there isn't
connection checking on the test button. I don't understand it.

It's like when i use a user dsn, the connection it's ok, but when i use the
system dsn, the connection it's losen. What's happening?? It's a bug?
I'm using Manage Anywhere Studio v 4.6.1235.0

Thanks for your replys. Joseph.

Can you clarify if the connection you're referring to is the connection
test for the DSN, or the "Test Server" button when you install the agent?

Anyway, if the DSN has not been tested, is it possible for you to go to the
ODBC administrator to see if it works?

It's the connection on the "test server" button with agents and deploying
agents.

Joseph,

After switching to a System dsn, I would run the configuration wizard and
the deploy agent wizard again to re-initialize the system. Have you done
this already?

Yes, i really do it. I've tested the database connection throw System DSN
and it's ok, but server connection with agents and deploying agents is the
problem. Also, on the console and into the architecture view there isn't any
records about command servers installed, either rely servers. Also, i've
installed again all the application (MAS) and the problem is the same. What
could be the problem?

Thanks.

Joseph,

From the client machine that you are trying to install the Agent on can you
access the Agent Download center?

Yes i can access it, but i can show a html page where indicate me that the
agents there are not deployed yet. The problem is that i can't deploy agents
before because while deploying, at the final step the application says that
there isn't connection with the server. Moreover, the MAS Command Server
status and web server status its ok. Also, in addition, i've added the user
IUSR_MIKI to Administrators group (where MIKI is the name of my server
machine).

In addition, the agent installed on the primary command server also can't
connect with his own server and consequently i think that's the cause
because there isn't any records on command servers over architecture view.

Just to double-check... you don't have a conflicting server (like Apache)
that happen to reside on this same machine?

Joseph,

MAS is very specific regarding the PC configuration before you attempt to
install the product. Consequently, you may currently have the correct
configuration, however, the system may not function due to the fact that the
configuration was not correct when you initially installed the product.
Therefore, I am proposing that you reinstall the product taking care to make
sure that all parameters are correct. Here are the steps that I would like
you to take:

1) Uninstall the MAS Primary Command Server. Verify that the installation
directory (c:\Program Files\Sybase\Manage Anywhere) does not exist anymore.
2) Delete the old ASA database that MAS was using and create a new one.
3) Make sure you are logged onto the PC as an Administrator.
4) Configure a Network Database Engine service to run the MAS database that
you just created.
5) Create a SYSTEM dsn to connect to that database. Test the connection.
6) Verify that the default IIS anonymous user account is a member of the
Administrators group. On your machine it sounds like this user is
IUSR_MIKI.
7) From your MAS installation CD, run PCMDSRV.exe. Reboot the PC when
prompted.
8) After the PC has rebooted the Manage Anywhere Studio Configuration
Utility will run. Choose your desired options. When prompted for the
Master Admin account, choose the account with which you are currently logged
into the machine as.
9) When the Configuration Utility is finished running the Deploy Agent
Wizard should run. Verify that the settings for the PC Agent point to the
Netbios name of the Command Server or the IP address of the Command Server.
10) Once the Deploy Agent Wizard is finished the Console should open. Open
the Architecture View, right click on the Primary Command Server and choose
properties. Note the IP address of the server.
11) On your system tray right click on the Agent icon and choose Options.
Verify that the IP address matches the IP address that the Command Server is
running on.
12) On the Agent that you have deployed to your client PC verify that the
Agent is pointed towards the correct IP.
13) Open each of the Agents, click Scan Now and note whether a connection
is successful to the Command Server. Also note whether the connection is
made to the actual IP address of the Command Server.

Let us know if you have a functioning system at this point.

Thanks very much for your reply. I've reinstalled MAS again like you
specified me, and now MAS is running OK, the was in me IIS, it wasn't
configured correctly. Now i can view the primary command server on the
architecture view and all the pc's where i've installed the agents.

Really, thanks very much!!.

Joseph.
