I installed ASE 12 Evaluation on a clean Win2000 Server.

ASE seems to be running fine. I see everything I expect to see when I
run Sybase Central on the server. And I can ping the server from dsEdit
locally. The Win2000 server itself is visible on the network and tcp is
functional.

But I cannot establish any kind of remote connection whatsoever. I've
installed the Sybase Client on both a Win2000 Pro and a Win98
workstation. But when I try to setup a connection in dsEdit it fails.

Since I'm running the evaluation version it's true that I'm relatively
new to Sybase. So I may be missing something obvious. But I've scanned
through the docs to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

I solved my own problem.

In dsEdit it is necessary to seperate the IP address and the port with a
comma instead of the more standard colon.

If you are new to Sybase it is very unintuitive to have to write
199.161.51.90,4014 instead of 199.161.51.90:4010.
