Hello,

I am currently running a VFP 9 database, and we are looking into the
prospect of moving from VFP to advantage, while keeping the VFP front
end. I downloaded and am working with the trial to see if it will work
for our purposes, However, I am currently having a problem, to which I
am unable to figure out the solution. I tried using remote views and
cursor adapters thusfar, but i seem to be unable to access any indexes
from the database in foxpro. With cursor adapters, i can create indexes,
however, I would like to be able to access the indexes all ready defined
in the advantage database, is there a way to do this from foxpro?

thanks in advance!

Hi Eric,

If I understand correctly, it is not possible to do what you are asking.
Both remote views and cursor adapters create "objects" in FoxPro that
contain data from the table. And based on operations that you perform, they
may send updates back to the table. So in some sense, they are a buffer
between the application and the physical table, so it is not possible to
refer to indexes on the table by name after the cursor is created. However,
when you run SQL statements against those objects, the backend (e.g.,
Advantage) will use the indexes to optimize the query and to order result
sets. But if it is necessary to order the result set (or seek) after the
cursor is created, then it would be necessary to create an index on the
cursor.
