When I try to start the Monitoring Functions in Sybase Central on my ASE
12.0.0.1 running on a Win NT 4.0 Server, I get the following message:

"Unable to launch Monitor screen. Please check your Java environment
configuration."

I've already installed my Java Runtime Environment with jdk1_1_8-win.exe and
also checked my CLASSPATH variable as decribed in ASE Installation Guide
"Enabling the Monitoring Functions" (p.96) and my Monitor Server is running.

What can I do to locate the problem?

Thanks for help.

Try setting the "enable java" option to true using sp_configure.

Does that work?

The enviroment variable "enable java" was set to true, but with installing
the Java Runtime Environment with the file jdk1_1_8-win.exe the following
pathes were not set:

CLASSPATH: %SYBASE%\install\lib\classes.zip

and

PATH: %SYBASE%\install\bin

where %SYBASE%\install ist the location (drive and directory) where I
installed the JDK.

Thanks. Oliver
