Our Sybase 11.5.1 hung with the errorlog at 1.5 GB size, with the following
message about one million times, over and over:

00:00000:00142:2001/01/12 09:23:46.07 server Error: 3639, Severity: 17,
State: 1
00:00000:00142:2001/01/12 09:23:46.07 server There is no space available in
syslogs in database 1 for process 142 to log a record for which space has
been reserved. This process will retry at intervals of 60 seconds.

Master was 0 kbytes free in data and log. I truncated with no log and all
was well

I'm trying to find the cause of the problem but the error 3639 is nowhere in
sybooks or in the sybase web support site. Anyone have any clues?

This had never happened before, no other errors before this one, dumps are
done nightly, no application objects get stored in the master database,
ever.

Master size is 31 mb, of which almost 30 are usually free.

Thanks for any help

Try that :
dump database master to "master.old"
shutdown

bldmastr.exe [-d new disk] [-s new lager size]

copy [new disk] to [old disk]

start ASE with -M mode (one user)

load database master from "master.old"

after shutdown , start ASE

effect = you mai alter database master

Thanks for the rebuild info. When I truncated with no log master returned
to normal and messages stopped. What I was looking for was if anyone had
seen the 3639 error since I can't find it anywhere
