On an ASE 12.0.0.1 Server I have a database with seperated LOG (2,5 GB) and
DATA (5,0 GB) Segments. ASE generated a Last-Chance Threshold at 150 MB.
When I try to add my Free-Space Threshold at 200 MB, I get the error
message: "A threshold at 10240000 pages is logically impossible for segment
'logsegmet'. Choose a value between 0 and 1310720 pages." But this would
mean, to place my Free-Space Threshold under 25,6 MB and this is below the
Last-Chance Threshold.

Where is my misunderstanding. Thanks for any help.

Hi Oliver,

It sounds like there is some confusion on units going on.
1310720 pages is indeed 2.5 gb, so the error message makes some sense.
However, the server should certainly be placing the last chance
threshold at a higher page than 150MB if the whole segment has 2.5GB.
Unfortunately, ASE is not very consistant when it comes to units of
measurement
and sometimes reports things in 2kb pages, sometimes in MB, sometimes
in KB, sometimes in bytes, etc.

Perhaps you could post the output from sp_helpthreshold and the
sp_addthreshold you are trying to run?

Hi Bret,

thanks for helping me. Here is the output of sp_helpthreshold:

segment name free pages last chance? threshold procedure
------------ ----------- ------------ -------------------
logsegment 76816 1 sp_thresholdaction

I always tried to add the Free-Space Threshold at 200 MB in Sybase
Central and there seems to be a bug in converting MB to Pages.

Now I added my Free-Space Threshold in SQL Advantage with the
command:

sp_addthreshold postrans, logsegment, 102400, sp_dump_transaction

and it worked!

Oliver
