We have just taken delivery and have completed the installation and
configuration of our Rep Server and are trying to start the Rep Agent
against one of our databases and getting the following error message in our
ASE errorlog:-

"RepAgent(12): Received the following error message from the Replication
Server: Msg 14024. Executor does not allow the entered command in the
current mode.."

We have looked to see if we can find any info on this in the manuals and
online and are unable to find the message anywhere.

Can anyone give us any clues as to where we can find info on the above or
what may be causing the problem.

ASE Version - 12.0.0.7/P/EBF 11089 ESD 1
REP Version - 12.1/P

Thanks

Andrew.

Andrew,

You could try tuning on ASE trace "RA_TRC_LTLCMDS" to see what the
RepAgent is sending that RepServer does not like.

Hello,
just to add to Greg, is it during the installation or after. If during
the installation, please post the resource files for installation , if
after, was the installation without any problem ? In other words all log
files and/or outputs show success ?
Regards,
Peter

Greg/Peter,

Thanks for your responses, the message is after the installation when we are
running the "sp_start_rep_agent ..." SP. As far as we are aware the
installation went in successfully. We are going to re-check the logs again
though. Please excuse my lack of knowledge here but how do we turn on this
trace flag Greg? I have turned on trace flags in the RUN file for ASE and
using "dbcc traceon" etc but these are always numbers.

We have been following the Sybook documentation and Sybase Central/rs_init
to try to configure the Rep Agent. We have found a slightly more detail
manual on the Sybase web site and are going to try and see if there is
anything detail there which we have missed.

Andrew,

I believe the number of this trace point is 9201. I believe you can use "dbcc traceon" to turn it on.

It seems for some reason that the RepAgent is trying to execute a command in RepServer that normally RepAgents would not attempt. If this trace fails to reveal the problem, we may be able to turn on a trace in the RepServer that could help.

Greg,
as far as I know the successful installation starts the rep agent, you
do not have to do it manually, correct ?

Peter

Greg/Peter,

I tried switching on the trace flag as well as trace flag 3604 and 3605 to
make the messages appear in the log etc but there was no further detail
reported back. Any ideas what the traceflag in the REP server is, I presume
it is switch on in the same way as per ASE.

The rep agent trys to start when you configure via either Sybase central or
rs_init. rs_init reports back that configuration is successful but we get
the error message in the ASE log.

Thanks

Andrew.

After deleting and completely re-installing the replication software and
re-creating the rep server setup this problem has gone.

Thanks for all your help.

Andrew,

Sorry - I just got back from vacation yesterday. I would have liked to have figured out what the problem was here, but I glad you've got things going.

FYI, the traces in RepServer to show incoming commands would be "EXEC,EXEC_TRACE_COMMANDS" which shows successfully parsed LTL (probably not useful here since I think the problem crops up before we get that far) and "PRS,LEX ". "PRS,LEX " would probably show what we are looking for, but it produces lots of output and might be difficult to read. The output looks something like this:
T. 96/02/20 16:28:22. (25): yylex: Keyword 'admin'. T. 96/02/20 16:28:22. (25): yylex: Id 'who'. T. 96/02/20 16:28:22. (25): yylex: End of batch seen. : T. 96/02/20 16:30:57. (25): yylex: Keyword 'trace'. T. 96/02/20 16:30:58. (25): yylex: Delimited id 'off'. T. 96/02/20 16:30:58. (25): yylex: Punctuation ','. T. 96/02/20 16:30:58. (25): yylex: Id 'PRS'. T. 96/02/20 16:30:58. (25): yylex: Punctuation ','. T. 96/02/20 16:30:58. (25): yylex: Id 'LEX'. Both of these traces require the debug RepServer binary. To turn on these traces, log into RepServer and issue: trace "on","PRS","LEX" go trace "on","EXEC","EXEC_TRACE_COMMANDS" go -- Thanks, G.Carter Sybase Replication Server Engineering mailto:greg.carter@workmail.com

After deleting and completely re-installing the replication software and re-creating the rep server setup this problem has gone. Thanks for all your help. Andrew. "Andrew Streets-McLeod" <andy@nospam> wrote in message news:#gIO3eITDHA.342@forums-2-dub...
Greg/Peter, I tried switching on the trace flag as well as trace flag 3604 and 3605 to make the messages appear in the log etc but there was no further detail reported back. Any ideas what the traceflag in the REP server is, I
presume
it is switch on in the same way as per ASE. The rep agent trys to start when you configure via either Sybase central
or
rs_init. rs_init reports back that configuration is successful but we get the error message in the ASE log. Thanks Andrew. "Peter Simandl" <petr14@volny.cz> wrote in message news:3F160922.5000307@volny.cz...
Greg, as far as I know the successful installation starts the rep agent, you do not have to do it manually, correct ? Regards, Peter Greg Carter wrote:
Andrew, I believe the number of this trace point is 9201. I believe you can
use
"dbcc traceon" to turn it on. It seems for some reason that the RepAgent is trying to execute a command in RepServer that normally RepAgents would not attempt. If
this
trace fails to reveal the problem, we may be able to turn on a trace
in
the RepServer that could help. -- Thanks, G.Carter Sybase Replication Server Engineering mailto:greg.carter@workmail.com Andrew Streets-McLeod wrote:
Greg/Peter, Thanks for your responses, the message is after the installation when
we
are
running the "sp_start_rep_agent ..." SP. As far as we are aware the installation went in successfully. We are going to re-check the logs
again
though. Please excuse my lack of knowledge here but how do we turn on
this
trace flag Greg? I have turned on trace flags in the RUN file for ASE
and
using "dbcc traceon" etc but these are always numbers. We have been following the Sybook documentation and Sybase
Central/rs_init
to try to configure the Rep Agent. We have found a slightly more
detail
manual on the Sybase web site and are going to try and see if there is anything detail there which we have missed. Andrew. "Peter Simandl" <petr14@volny.cz> wrote in message news:3F145DCC.5060307@volny.cz...
Hello, just to add to Greg, is it during the installation or after. If
during
the installation, please post the resource files for installation ,
if
after, was the installation without any problem ? In other words all
log
files and/or outputs show success ? Regards, Peter Greg Carter wrote:
Andrew, You could try tuning on ASE trace "RA_TRC_LTLCMDS" to see what the RepAgent is sending that RepServer does not like.
