We would need to know the exact error message. You may have made a
typographic error in the directory structure, or there may be a
permissions problem, etc. Worst case would be that the device just
wasn't created.

sp_configure "max online engines", 2
go
shutdown
go
-- now reboot ASE.

Execute the following command:
sp_configure "number of locks"
go

to determine how many locks you are currently configured for. Determine
some larger number that makes sense, and configure for that many locks.
Remember that each lock uses a small amount of your "total memory", so
you may also need to increase "total memory"

sp_configure "number of locks", <n>
go
shutdown
go
-- now reboot ASE

wrong.

Are you using Sybase Central on the server it's self, or on a remote
machine.

When I Use SC on a remote machine, and specify a path of say
'H:\data\database.dat' and drive H does not exist on the machine I am
running SC from, I too get an error. This appears to be normal. If you are
in fact running it on the server, you should probably give further details
to those people here that are far more knowledgeable than I.
