I have about 5 years developing Sybase applications and recently began to
explore remote contracting. That way I have no reason to relocate myself.
Once you buy the correct hardware and software, you don't have to hang with
your employeer.

Has any one of you explored this "telework" theme?

Cesar

IME it's something that is always "about to happen". I've worked for
companies where they've tried this, but it hasn't worked and has been
abandoned. In practice it's very hard to develop software where the
programmers are widely dispersed.
Of course I'm based in the UK, things may be very different on the other
side of the pond. In which case, anyone from the US who wants to employ a
developer based in the UK should email me!

Hye Everybody,

I am developing Internet-Apllications for customers in Germany. I also
do this from home and sometimes we meet for some special problems. I
also think you have to keep the personal contact to your customers
sometimes. Not many customers are willing to do this kind of working
together, because business is often something they want to control, and
they want to trust someone. They want to know that someone is coming if
he has a real problem.

But nevertheless I am working that way since 15 years now. I also have a
homepage where I try to find Teleworkers sometimes. Maybe we all should
change Emails and find out about the knowledge of each other.

regards,

Martin
