Hi All,

I have a problem accessing Advantage Database Server (v 6.2) from remote
computer. My application is a Windows NT service. When it started on the
same computer as the ADS server everything works fine. However cannot
discover this ADS server from remote computer. ACE class functions
AdsConnect() and AdsMgConnect() return me error # 6420 "Unable to discover
the Advantage Database Server". The service user has rights to access ADS
server drive (I even gave full access to "everyone" for testing). I tried
both access by mapped letter and by UNC and always got the same result. The
strange thing is when I switched ads.ini to from ADS to ALS I could connect
to the remote folder and open tables. So I think somehow ADS server does
not accept NT service from remote computer as a valid user. Regular Win32
application can access this server from the same remote computer using the
same user credentials as my NT service.
Has anyone had an issue like that before? Is that ADS configuration problem
or something else? Has anyone got a working service accessing remote ADS
server? Thank you all in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Evgeny.

LAN_IP, LAN_PORT in the ADS.INI file should help. We see from time to
time such issues where a service is not able to connect, but an EXE is
(from the same machine).

Hi,

I have developed a service that accesses Advantage from a remote computer.
There are a few things that you need to do.

1) Have a user account with the same name and password on both machines.
2) Make sure you specify this username/password in the "Log on" section of
the service properties
3) Make sure you use UNC paths. Services will not recognise mapped drives.

Regards,
Steven
