I know that Vista doesn't support old-style WinHelp without downloading
WinHlp32 for Vista from Microsoft. I also know that PB's ShowHelp function
supports HTML Help files (*.chm) as of at least PB 10, which is what I'm
using.

You can bring up PB's built in Sort and Filter windows in an app with
dw.SetSort(lsNull) or dw.SetFilter(lsNull). And you can cause those windows
to display a Help button by setting the dw.Object.DataWindow.Help.*
properties. I do those things in my app.

The problem is that the help file you can set with
dw.Object.DataWindow.Help.File has to be a WinHelp file - it won't work if
you set it to an HTML help file.

This is a problem for my users, because Microsoft won't allow you to bundle
their WinHlp32 for Vista installer with your installer - I have to send the
users to the Microsoft download page for it. That's very confusing.

Has anyone come up with any workarounds for this?

Thanks.

Hi Dan;

An excellent point on the DW Help aspect. I would suggest that you enter
an enhancement request for PB to address this in the next release. Please
feel free to enter one .. FYI:
http://www.isug.com/common/EnhancementsProcess.html

In the mean time, the only alternative I can offer is to build your own
dialogs instead of using the built-in PB ones. We have to do this anyway in
Canada as all our applications have to be multilingual.

OK, I joined ISUG and submitted that as an enhancement request.

I don't suppose you'd like to share your custom SetSort and SetFilter
dialogs? And do you have one for SaveAs, which I also use?

Thanks.

Yes, but they are extensions to the PFC. Are you using the PFC and what
version of PB are you on?

BTW: I just approved your enhancement #3553 and added a comment about the
same dependency problem on the ShowPopUpHelp ( ) method.

Thanks about the enhancement.

No, unfortunately I'm not using PFC, and don't want to start doing so! I'm
on PB10.2. Thanks for your offer anyways.

I don't suppose you have any idea what PB is actually doing/calling when it
tries to access help from the DataWindow dialogs? I'm just wondering
whether there might be some way I could code to trap that call, and replace
it by a call to my HTML help file.

I think I may have some applications that use non-PFC versions. I will
check tonight in my archives and let you know.

Did you find those non-PFC versions of the SetSort,SetFilter and SaveAs
dialogs, Chris? I would certainly still very much appreciate your offer of
them, if you found them!

Hi Dan;

Yes I did ... but they are also embedded in a home grown framework and
