I'm trying to configure the auding for ASE 12.0 on an NT box, and I am
having some difficulties.

Basically I do not know where to start.
The electronic manual that came with my installation uses unix references,
so I make the allowances for NT where possible, but then it asks me to run
this script: installsecurity

I did a full install of ASE 12.0 and this script does not exist.
Does anyone know of a URL that goes through installing the audit abilities
of ASE 12.0?
Or could someone post here/email me these instructions?

Thanks,
Greg Roy

Greg,

The NT script is called "instsecu". To install it is really easy. Just do
something like this:

-- get next free vdevno
-- select 'next device vdevno is', max(low/16777216)+1 from sysdevices
disk init name = "auditdatadev",
physname = "e:\data\auitdata1.dat",
vdevno = 15, size = 5120

disk init name = "auditlogdev",
physname = "e:\logs\auditlog1.dat",
vdevno = 16, size = 1024

create database sybsecurity on auditdev
log on auditlogdev

-- run script instsecu from ISQL. in the sybase\ase-12_0\scripts directory.

Andy

the create database statement should read, of course (because of the data
device name):

create database sybsecurity on auditdatadev
log on auditlogdev

I don't work on NT platforms so take this FWIW ...

What I'd suggest is that you find the directory where the 'install' SQL
scripts are located ... and take a quick look at each script. I'm assuming by
'auditing' you're referring to the sybsecurity database and the sysaudits
tables, right? If so ... look for a 'create database sybsecurity' or 'create
table sysaudits...' in the various install scripts. Shouldn't take too long
to open up all the scripts you find and do a cursory glance of the contents?
(using 'grep' would be helpful if you have this unix-like command capability).

One other option would be to check out the sybooks.sybase.com website to see
if they have an up-to-date ASE/NT installation guide?
