Hi all,

My hardware are two Compaq Proliant 6000R_550-1 servers and
Disk Array, os is win2000 advanced server with Cluster.

Did ASE11.5 certificate on it and support MS Cluster?

Hi,

ASE is not certified on Windows 2000. It is scheduled but I don't have
a timeframe. ASE 12 provides support for MS Cluster.

ASE V12 CLUSTER - HIGH AVAILABILIY

Regarding ASE 12 and MS Cluster support (known as the HA - High
Availability - option), it is worth bearing the following issues in mind. I
wasted a few weeks with Sybase support in France trying to get it to work. I
hope this information helps.

Do NOT perform a failover using the MS Cluster Administrator as it doesn't
work as expected. Sybase know about this and recommend a manual failover
from ISQL. See my comments below.

Configuration and Problems
==========================

The Symmetric configuration is required so that failover can occur from
either primary node to its secondary companion. In this configuration, both
nodes are both primary and secondary companions. For this write-up, the
Sybase ASE instances are called NODE_A and NODE_B and configuration is
performed using the script below via ISQL.

DO NOT FOLLOW THE MANUAL AS IT IS INCORRECT. The manual contains an error in
the setup of the symmetric configuration and states that a parameter
with_proxydb must be supplied. This command fails and instead Sybase support
have advised to supply the parameter null in its place IN BOTH INSTANCES.
Use this script instead.

------------------- SCRIPT -------------------

-- from harmarney_a, check configuration is okay to begin HA installation
sp_companion "NODE_B", do_advisory, 'all'

-- step 1 - configure NODE_A in assymetric setup with NODE_B
-- from NODE_A
sp_companion "NODE_B", configure, null, sa, pw, sa_cluster, pw

-- then from NODE_B
sp_companion "NODE_A", configure, null, sa, pa, sa_cluster, pw

------------------- END SCRIPT -------------------

Performing Failover and Failback
=================================

Do not use the Microsoft Cluster Administrator for failing over and failing
back. Doing so will result in corruption of the metadata in the system
catalogs in master and it is acknowledged as yet another bug with the HA
option. You must perform manual failover and failback via ISQL. Sybase and
Microsoft as still arguing as to who owns the bug, however. Until they sort
out their differences, I don't think it will get fixed. The bug reference if
you are interested is #209617.
