Hi,

Could someone please confirm whether replication is possible when some
of the tables to be replicated are updated via Clipper applications (and
hence opened as free tables)?

There have been conflicting statements in this newsgroup:

Hi Douglas,

Joachim's answer is correct. As long as you have opened the table *first*
on a data dictionary connection, then it will be replicated when Clipper
applications make changes to the data. If you can guarantee that, then it
should work fine.

You would need some kind of "dummy" application that connects to the data
dictionary and then opens all the tables (and keeps them open). Just
opening them and then closing them immediately would not be sufficient since
that would clear the table information and the next open via Clipper would
not have the replication information.

Good, thanks Mark!

I guess the best solution then would be to have the dummy application
running on the server itself, at startup, is that right?

Yes. I think that would be a good solution.
