Hi!

I want to change a text field in a Report DW, that is in a DW.

I tried wihtout sucess:
dw_1.Modify( "dw_report.Object.text_field.Text='NEW TEXT'")
dw_1.Modify( "dw_report.text_field.Text='NEW TEXT'")

I can get de text_fiel text with it:
string ls_text
ls_text = dw_1.Object.dw_report.Object.text_field.text

But I can´t change...
I tried with Child DataWindow, but got an error when using the
getchild command for DW Report.

Someone knows how to do this?

Thanks!
Francisco

You can't mix dot notation and Modify. Try
dw_1.object.dw_report.Object.text_field.Text='NEW TEXT'
See the Help topic Syntax for nested objects in DataWindow property
expressions in PowerBuilder
[if it was a composite DW you would be able to use GetChild and modify the
DataWindowChild. This is apparently a nested DW]

Thanks, Jerry!

I´m modifing a nested DW.
The command that you posted worked fine, but, when I retrieve the DW
data, the text of the field changes to the original value.
Is there any way to keep the text fixed?

Thanks!

I'm guessing that retrieve causes the occurrences of the nested DW to be
recreated for each row of the main DW, so you would have to set the text
again after the retrieve or put it in the RetrieveEnd event for the main DW.

Thanks, Jerry!

But I have other question...

I´m creating a function to modify text fields from

Im creating a function to dynamically modify text fields, so I need a
way in which the name of the field and dwreport can be informed
dynamically.

Is there any way to do this?

Thank you!

Not directly. Nested reports can only be changed with dot notation, and dot
notation requires hard coding. Maybe put a function in the datawindow to set
a specific text?

Thank you, Jerry!

I am working, with my team, in an automatic translation of a system
and find this problem for translation texts in DW Report.
Dynamic translation is better for us, then I would know if you have
any suggestions for this problem, because we want to avoid "hard
code".
A dynamic function would be ideal.

Thanks!
Francisco

The only idea that comes to mind is to start with the whole DW syntax, parse
it and make the changes, then use LibraryImport to replace the whole nested
DW.
I'd also look at the translation toolkit (which I've never tried) and
WizTom.

I´ll use hard code, because I don´t have many Reports to change.

Thank you for your help!
