hi,

i would like some clarification. I am a developer connecting on to ASE
15.0.2 database. on my machine i have PC clients for ASE and i have
Sybase Cental working ...everything is fine. BUT I also need to
connect to various SQL Anywhere db for some other development projects
that I do. I have install full base install of various SQL Anywhere
databses and i can connect with no problem. I tried doing the same for
a colleagues and the Sybase Central and I-SQL in both ASA /ASE
crashed , returning a java exception error. the uninstall of both DB
and re-installing only one version of the db restored the Sybase
Central / I-Sql . My question is, Can SQL Anywhere and ASE reside
together?

Technically they should.

I'm confuded - by I-SQL do your mean dbisql (gui based tool,
installed with ASE and/or ASA) or ISQL - Client Library utility included
in the OpenCLient software for ASE? I supposed DBISQL.

What was the exception? Maybe it provides a clue? You should be able to
co-exist but if the Sybase Central / DBISQL environments get mixed up this
can
cause trouble. Maybe the versions from the PC Client and ASA were way off?

What SQLAnywhere? What was Sybase Central version there?

Make sure that the correct PATH (or JAVA) environment
variables are set for the specific installations of ASE and
ASA.
It sounds like the wrong JVM's are picked up for the wrong
client, or can I call it "conflicting" with each other...?

Just a thought..

I would think this is certainly the case here. I should think that
let's say you install the ASA first. ASA client functionality will
expect to use paths set at that time.

I would save the paths after the first product is installed. I would
then restore the paths to the pre-install state after say "pcclient"
is installed.

If you wish to use the Sybase Central from the pcclient install, then
run the SYBASE.bat file in that directory and invoke Sybase Central.
