You know, speaking of mungled subject lines, isn't this newsgroup
owned and managed by Sybase? As in, "sybase.yada.yada" belongs
to Sybase and originates on their computers, vs. "comp.yada.yada"
which may overlap subject matter but is totally public.

As such, can't the management at Sybase get somebody to yank
all this annoying spam off the group? I wouldn't expect that's even
possible on the public groups.

It's getting worse and worse.

These groups are "moderated" by TeamSybase. We do our best outside of our
"day jobs" to get spam removed from the newsgroups. Some IT folks within
Sybase also help out when needed.

I believe most of the spam that you refer to has been cancelled. If you are
using a newsreader that caches messages (like Outlook Express) you might
think that those messages are still on the news server, but I can tell you
that most of them are not.

I'll also add that if you are reading these groups from Google,
cancellations of messages don't always necessarily get reflected on Google.
Not a Sybase issue per se.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case.

I read and post on Google Groups. I have no idea what
kind of caching it does, but I've canceled my own postings
which then dutifully disappear, but then others have
responded to them anyway.

I thought maybe it might be possible to put certain parties
and/or their IP's on a permanent block list, but I have no
idea how the mechanics of these things work.

Oy. I guess we'll just have to live with kind of mess so
long as spammers never have to pay anything to spam.

:tears:
