Hi. I am running Sybase 11.5 on NT 4.0 and HPUX and we want to take a dump
from the Sybase NT and restore it on the Sybase on HPUX. Is there a clean
way to do this? What are the procedures and some things to keep in mind? Are
the dump files compatible between the 2 platforms?

Thanks in advance.

Jorge

Another option is to use Replication. For extremely large databases this has been one of
the best options available. Especially when moving between platforms.

Getting the data across is (IMO) secondary to making sure that you get 100% of the data
structures implemented on the new box.

bcp is your only choice here. but it should be easy.

reverse engineer all the objects out of NT database.
Build the tables (only) on Unix
BCP out of NT
BCP in to Unix
Build the remaining objects in Unix (procs, index, constraints)

only thing you have to watch out for is delimeters are not in the data.
you can script the bcp and do it in one shot
