I made a db dump on ASE 12 at Win2000 machine. When i try to load
this dump in ASE 11.9.2 on WinNT 4.0, i got an error :

> Backup Server: 1.14.2.2: Unrecoverable I/O or volume error. This DUMP or
> LOAD session must exit.
> Backup Server: 6.32.2.3: f:\dbtest.dmp: volume not valid or not requested
> (server: , session id: 8.)

I think, 11.9.2 backup server cannot understand dump structure of 12.0 backup.
Is it right ?
Is it possible to make backups at 12.0 in some '11.9.2-compatible' format ?

Versions of software:
1. Adaptive Server Enterprise/12.0.0.2/P/SWR 9442 ESD 1/NT (IX86)/OS
4.0/1661/32bit/OPT/Fri Dec 29 22:10:31 2000
Operation system - Win2000 SP1

2. Adaptive Server Enterprise/11.9.2.4/1170/P/SWR 9453 ESD 2/NT (IX86)/OS
3.51,4.0/FBU/Tue Jan 16 03:52:44 2001
Operation system - WinNT 4.0 workstation SP6a

Thanks in advance.

Dumps are not backward compatible, you cannot load a dump into an older version
of ASE.

Hi,

Just to supplement to Bret...

The sqlremote utility (included in 11.9.2 and higher) will replicate
the data from server to server. (ASE <-> ASE, ASE <-> ASA,
ASA <-> ASA) This is a LIGHT WEIGHT replicator and not meant for
heavy replication loads.

The documentation for it is in the Adaptive Server Anywhere (aka SQL
Anywhere) documentation set (ver 6.0x +) on http://sybooks.sybase.com.

hope this helps

jason
