I prefer FreeBSD as my server platform. could anyone tell me if there is
plan to
support FreeBSD. I am current using FreeBSD 4.5, it offically supports AIO
and raw
file I/O, I think it's what sybase mainly need.

Thanks

Note that Sybase just announced support for Mac OS X which is based on
FreeBSD 3.x. Now, keep in mind that Mac OS X BSD is really a layer in
"Darwin" which one wonders if that implies that it could (or has) forked
from FreeBSD.

I believe that Apple has hired the top minds in FreeBSD organization to
work on Apple's Darwin. I think that they are working to bring Darwin
to FreeBSD 4.x (or maybe 5.x) so that might be a good sign for you.

Problem you might have is when you define "support". I'll bet if you
call Sybase and tell them you're running FreeBSD on anything other than
MAC OS X, you won't get the time of day. Strange isn't it?

Also, keep an eye on Mac OS X. A truly elegant OS to say the least, and
Apple looks like it might be going after those who resist the urge to go
to Linux.

There's a port of the Free linux 11.0.3.3 release that I believe runs on
some versions of FreeBSD. Try doing a google search for freebsd and
sybase and see what you can come up with.

I'm not aware of any plans to support FreeBSD.

I would expect market share is what drives the ports. :)
