When a field on a datawindow has "box" specified as border, is there a
way to change to color of the box? Or is it always black?

I know it is possible to leave the box in the field an draw a
rectangle around it with the desired color, but that's not the
solution I'm looking for. Since I have A LOT of datawindows with
fields in boxes and ALL the boxes should be in a different color.

So I look for a method where I can "Edit Source" of the DW and just
replace some text by another.

I've had to resort to using a box object that's slightly bigger than the
column so that when the column sits on top of it, you only see the
border of the box. The column itself would have no border. You can
change the color of the box as you see fit.

Yes, I know this is possible, but in my original post I mentioned that
this isn't really an option for me, because there are A LOT of
datawindows where the columns DO have borders. It would take too much
time to resize all these columns on the datawindows and add boxes or
rectangles.
