Hi!

I'm using the Evaluation version of DataWindow Designer 1.0 and I am
doing some testing with Visual Basic.Net 2003. So far, I am pretty
amazed with what I've seen.

I'm testing the ADOTransaction object to associate an ADO.Net
connection with a DataWindow. It works fine with any OleDB connection
but I haven't been able to bind the ADO.Net Sybase Adaptive Server
Anywhere provider and the Oracle provider (the one from Microsoft and
the one from Oracle) to the ADOTransaction object. I get this error:

Connection type:OracleConnectionis not supported now.
An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException'
occurred in MyFirstDataWindow.exe
(Same thing for ASAConnection)

Is this a limit of the evaluation version or am I doing something
wrong?

Here is the code I use:

Dim cn As New System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection

Try
cn.ConnectionString = "Data Source=myServer;User
ID=MyUser;Password=myPassword"
cn.Open()

Dim adoTrans As New Sybase.DataWindow.AdoTransaction(cn)
adoTrans.BindConnection() '==> Exception is thrown
DW1.SetTransaction(adoTrans)

Catch Ex As Exception
Debug.WriteLine(Ex.Message)
Throw Ex
End Try

Thanks!

Hi Simon,

I'm glad you are enjoying using DataWindow .NET. With regards to your
issue with the ADO .NET driver I don't think you are doing anything
wrong, I believe that just isn't supported yet. Our current ADO .NET
implementation uses OLEDB under the covers so if you are using a
native implementation from Microsoft or Oracle then it probably won't
work.

We are working on improving the ADO .NET driver and it should be
available in either v1.5 or v2.0.

Regards,
Dave Fish
