The RTF Fields in Datawindows are totaly unusable. I'm disappointed.

- autosize height doesn't works
- no automatic wrapping
- If you have a datawindow with a rtf field, the datawindow pagebreak
works not correctly

I can't imagine, that anyone can use this "functionality"

I hope for a new good patch for Powerbuilder 11.5, god will me help...

Hi Andi;

I think I heard that there would be an MR release for PB 11.5 sometime
in April. I have no idea though if your RTF concerns are being addressed in
that release though.

Start with http://www.sybase.com/support/aboutsupport.

Under casemanagement, you can submit bugs (free service and subject to
the service levels described in "Important Message" displayed) or via
your support plan. Otherwise, you can call your local center and open
support cases.

Hi Andi,
I am happy!!! that I got the person who faces the similar problem with
RT column inside dw.
I got internal build 3090 (latest) and checked readme file which
doesn't solve this issue it seems.
Do you have any workaround for this. In screen, it is being displayed
properly and we are using large text in RT style.

In my application rich text edit style shows things correctly in
screen.
Printing is the problem always.
So I am planning some how to take all those values to word using OLE
or something, when user wants to print. so free flowing text will not
be a problem? Am I correct
I have 4 columns in datawindow with text datatype of sql server 2000.
Can you please give me an idea?

pls send me your reply preswar123@gmail.com

Regards

I'd make sure Sybase knew about the problems and your concerns. (And
no, officially, newsgroups are *not* a means of communicating with
Sybase.) The more "votes" an issue gets, the higher up in the priority
queue it gets. There's a place to report bugs for free in the Support
section of the Sybase web site. (Note: The report will carry more
weight if attached to a Support contract, so if you've got one of
those, use it instead of the free reporting.)

FWIW, I've already whined about the autosize height. I hadn't gotten
as far as to identify the other two. (Although I have to admit
surprise about the wrapping; I'll have to look again.)

Good luck,

Terry and Sequel the techno-kitten

The latest EBF resolves most of these issues. I have been using it for
quite sometime now and find it is stable in both the development and run
time environments.

Perhaps you should download it and give it a try.

My mistake - 3090 is a "controlled" release, and has not been released to
the general customer base yet.

Any way I can see the release notes on that?

Andi,

I am not sure what problems you are having but...

1. For AutoSizeHeight - I assume that you talking about a column with
the RichText Edit Style. Make sure both the column and the row have the
AutoSizeHeight property set. This works fine for me.

If you do have both set, then what is your problem?

2. Auto Word Wrap - Works as specified in the help file. Just because
you set the property true doesn't mean that it will automatically wrap
for any size column. You must set the PaperWidth property equal to the
width of the column (minus the margin). By default, the PaperWidth is
set to 8 inches. So, with a margin of 0, the default, the line will not
wrap until it is 8 inches in length. See the help file for properties of
the RichText Edit.

3. Page Breaking - has always been a pain. What we do is set the
PaperHeight property for the RTE equal to, or less than, the height
available for the detail band. Again, remember it defaults to 11 inches.

HTH
Randy

Randy,

the PaperWidth property is just for a RTE Control. But NOT for
a Datawindow field with the Style Type 'RichText'. So I can't set
this property...

Hi Andi,

You are correct. Unfortunately, the RT edit style does not allow access
to all of the properties and methods for the underlying control. Some
methods are available through the new powerscript functions added for
the control in 11.5, but they are very limited.

Additionally, the RT edit style does not allow for the controls popup menu.

When entering data, the text length for each line is limited to the
width of the column and there is no auto scrolling (auto wrap). To
change colors of the text you must provide your own menu functions,
which means that the toolbar provided by the control is not much use
since you will probably write your own to provide methods to change the
font attributes.

Due to these limitations we provide a child window with the RTE control
for data entry for these fields. The child window allows us to provide
the user with the full experience of rich text in that he can turn on
and off any of the toolbars, insert documents, and change the font
colors. This is all done through the right click popup menu provided
with the control.

As for displaying and reporting the rich text, as I previously said,
with autosize height set for the column, row, and the vertical scrollbar
enabled if needed, we have no problems with the user being able to view
and edit the existing text (with the limitation that new lines will
behave as previously described). Word wrap works and printing also
works fine. In some reports where we know that we could have multiple
pages of text, we use a composite report, one DW for the report data and
a second for the RT adjusting the paper size as I said before.

I can understand your disappointment but this is the best way we have
found to take advantage of then new edit style.

Randy

Hi Randy,

thank you for your answer!

I never needed a composite datawindow. Now I tried something with a
composite datawindow. But when I have a text with more than one datawindow
page,
the datawindow prints just one page!? (please look at the attachment)

Do you have maybe a example for me?

Sorry....

Andi

Just checked, and I'm not having any wrapping issues with my RT
columns; they wrap text at the width of the column. I'm on build 3090,
but I'm also quite sure I've never had any issues. Any chance the
issue is with the rich text content you're putting into it? If it was
created containing a page size (as I believe most rich text controls
and editors will do by default), then maybe the column is honouring
it. Look for \paperw## and \paperh## in your rich text data.

Also, I'm definitely having autosizeheight issues. It's resizing the
height of the row, but the height that it's resizing it to is
insufficient to show all the rich text data. I can post a pic if
someone really wants to see it.

FWIW, I've been told one of my RT column issues is being fixed
post-3090, so hopefully there are some other fixes coming soon too.

Good luck,

Terry and Sequel the techno-kitten

Hi Terry,

The autosize height error is something that once happened with any
column that had autosize height turned on (an old issue that was fixed
sometime ago). I'll bet if you print the DW, it will be OK. Its only an
issue with the display not printing. At least that has been my experience.

Another interesting thing is that if you change the edit style from
RichText to just plain old Edit, it will autosize correctly on the
screen. Perhaps you can add this hint to your Case.

Randy

PS - try to display data in the RichText Edit style that includes a
small picture and see what happens.

I'm not sure what context your experience for autosizeheight for text
columns is, but the context I'm trying to test in (InsertRow(),
SetItem(), Modify ('xxx.width')), it works flawlessly and has for
years. (Hint: This is in PBL Peeper's Find output as a DW, showing the
context of the found item. If I could bold the matched string within
the context, it'd be nice.)

Interesting thought, but no, printing doesn't help matters.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting I investigate by changing the
column to Edit style. As I've said, IME in this context autosizeheight
for plain text works flawlessly. I must be missing something.

Good luck,

I received an email from the technical suport:

--> This is a known issue, CR 541411. I have associated this case with it.

- Can everbody tell me, how I can check them?
- This a "known issue", so, how I can check, when a patch exists?

thx
andi

My suggestion is to check with them again. Make clear that this CR is
for the RT Column
and not the RT DW. Could be wrong, but I think this CR is for the RT
DW and not the RT column.

Did you have a look at
\paperw## and \paperh##
in the RTF in the column?
Terry Voth explains earlier in this thread how this might be causing
the
problem that you have.
