Joachim:

Have you emailed me? If attaching a .zip file, please rename to .zzz
first.

Why should I have to work so hard to make a tool that the other RDBMSs
include? MySQL has mysql. PostgreSQL has psql. MSSQL Had SQLCMD. I am
so frustrated I am about to give up on Advantage.

there's a guy from Belgium (Michael Van Canneyt) who wrote an article
in a germany developer magazine (http://www.toolbox-mag.de) about
using Advantage with Lazarus/Free Pascal. He did translate the TDataset
Desc to FreePascal (one year ago...so it's ADS 8.0). If you're
interested, drop me an email on advantagesupport[at]ianywhere.com
attn:Joachim and I'll send it to you.

Better give up your email filters. I've now put it on my server:

Thanks Joachim.

My frustration is not with you and getting the code. It is due to having
to create a tool I feel the vendor should provide.

Pete

there are thousands of tools outside in the market and we have just
limited resources...otherwise we would need to sell our client kits to
get enough money to hire enough developers.
Product management has to decide which IDE is worth enough to support
natively.

You are right, of course. Advantage can't support every IDE. But I'm not
so much asking Advantage to support a specific OS, IDE, or language. I'm
wanting a specific tool type: a command-line client. Advantage does not
supply one at all no matter what the OS. I know at least one Advantage
developer who has developed such a tool himself which he uses internally.
I would like to see it released (without tech support, if necessary).

it was not an advantage developer - it was me. Scan the
Advantage.Utilities NG for "adsconsole" and you'll find it;)

Yes! That is exactly what I'm talking about. Thank you, thank you.

Would it be too much to ask if it could come in Windows *and* Linux
versions? I imagine if you code to the ACE API in C or Free Pascal (or
even CLX) the same source code (mostly) could be used to produce two
different binaries: one for Windows and one for Linux. Food for thought.

Thanks to all for responding. This thread has gone on long enough.

The internal utility our R&D group uses is written in C using ACE, so we
should be able to provide a linux version as well.
