Hi,

I was trying Replication. But not yet succeed.

I did the following steps.

1. I have Data Dictionary with ADT Tables as the source Data
Dictionary
2. Created another Data Dictionary (without any tables) in the same
server as the target Data Dictionay.
3. Created a Publication in the Source
4. Created a Subcription in the source
5. Closed the Data Architect.
6. Opened a table in the Source Dictionary and added a record.
7. Refreshed the target.

But no Tables found in the Target Data Dictionary.

Should I add all the tables in Source Data Dictionary ? if yes How ? I
have 180 Tables in the Source DD.

I am using ADS 9 with Replication License in Win 2003 . I was trying
to replicate in the same server.

What is wrong ?

Regards
Kiron

Hi Kiron,

Replication does not replicate meta data so it will not create table. You
will need to create the tables in the targe with the same name and similar
structure first.

The easiest initial set up is to copy the source data dictionary and tables
into the target directory first, assuming that you want the source and the
target to be identical.

Hello Kiron,

You may also want to check your replication queue. Go to the properties of
the subscription and you will find the name/location of the queue table
under the "Advanced" tab.

If there is an error with the top item in the queue all replication will
stop until that replication item is removed from the queue or the issue is
resolved. An error probably occurred on your first attempt when you tried to
insert a record into a table that didn't exist in the destination
dictionary. I would start by clearing out your queue.

There is actually an option to "Ignore Replication Failures" under that same
Advanced tab in the subscription properties.

Another tip... on the properties for the publication I would suggest using
the SQL MERGE Statement. In the case that you update a record in the source
that doesn't exist in the destination it will automatically insert the
record for you. (NOTE: If you enable the MERGE for each table and click ok
to leave the publication properties when you go back into the properties the
check box will no longer be check however the merge will still be enabled.
This is a bug that will be fixed in the next version of ARC.)

Hi Kiron,

There should be entries in the error log (ads_err.adt or possibly
ads_err.dbf) that show the reason that is not replicating. The entries for
replication issues generally will have "replication.c" in the ads_source
column.

Check ads_err.adt and ads_err.dbf for errors. If there are errors, check the
path in the error description and make sure they are valid.
