Hi all,

The readme letter says:

cd $SYBASE
xcopy \download\*.* /s/e/v

After loading the contents of the SWR, boot ASE as you
normally do.
ASE is now running the updated Sybase software.

But then continues on about running a bunch of scripts. Are any of
these necessary for a default Sybase installation. I'm not using any
modified Sybase system stored procedures, not using two-phase commit
or distributed transactions, so I figure I dont need to run the
Installmaster and Installcommit Scripts. I'm not sure about running
the Installdbccdb and instmsgs.ebf Scripts. What do these two do?

Also what are the files in the \upgrade directory? Do I need to run
any of these files?

Thanks in advance,

Aydin Pirinccioglu

Some DBA's run the scripts every time, some don't. I usually look at the date of the file
and it if is older than the release that is currently on the machine then I don't run the
script.

Thanks Jim,

If you mean the scripts, then the ones on my machine are all dated
3/31/2001, the installation date of this server.

Basically its a 11.9.2 that came with Intershop. We dont use any of
the more "complicated" DBA features and functions :-(

Is there any risk to running theses two, or should I just not worry
about any of the scripts:

Running the Installdbccdb Script
--------------------------------

Using 'isql', run the new 'installdbccdb' SQL script that was
included with this release. Save the output of this step
to an OS output file (separate from the upgrade, instmstr
or instcomm output).

isql -Usa -P<sa password> -S<server name>
-n -i%SYBASE%\scripts\installdbccdb -o<output file>

Running the instmsgs.ebf Script
-------------------------------

Running the 'instmsgs.ebf' script will bring your SQL Server
Messages up to the level of this SWR.

Using 'isql', run the new 'instmsgs.ebf' SQL script that was
included with this release. Save the output of this step
to an OS output file (separate from the upgrade, instmstr,
instcomm or installdbccdb output).

isql -Usa -P<sa password> -S<server name>
-n -i%SYBASE%\scripts\instmsgs.ebf -o<output file>

Thanks again,

aydin

When in doubt, run them. The instmsgs file will just refresh all the error messages so it
is "relatively" harmless.

On further inspection, it seems that all of my scripts are outdated
and some scripts, like instmsgs.ebf do not exist in my installation.

thx
